T/E Middle School Clubs and Activities


Academic Competition (grades 7 and 8) Sponsors- Mrs. Ferenchick (8) and Mr. Erwin (7)

Knowledge Bowl is an academic competition open to 7th and 8th grade students at TEMS. Tryout for the teams occur during the month of January. Each grade will take a single team of 8 students. Teams will practice on a weekly basis from January until the competition at the end of April. The competition, sponsored by the Chester Count Intermediate Unit, includes up to 33 local middle school teams. This is a wonderful opportunity for any student interested in trivia or Jeopardy.

After School Intramurals (grades 5 and 6 ONLY) Coordinator- Mrs. D’Angelo

After school sports is a time where students can engage in sports/activities that promote sportsmanship, self-direction and collaboration. It takes place outside on the fields and in the large gym during inclement weather. After school sports begins at 2:40 and ends at 3:10 in the large gym.

Art Club (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Mrs. Flint

Students work on long term fine arts projects. This is a studio based club where students develop fine arts skills in many different mediums; such as clay, acrylic, pastel, sculpting, metals and drawing. Parents and visiting artists will be presenting their unique works and mediums for us to try also (i.e. batik, print making). Buddy Games (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Ms. Turner

This club follows the “Best Buddies International” model- interact, socialize, play board games, and have fun in a welcoming environment.

Bulldog Ambassadors (grades 7 and 8) Coordinator- Ms. Wilson

The T/E Middle School Bulldog Ambassador Program is comprised of selected 7th and 8th grade students who participate in various school and community projects.  Our Ambassadors are available to assist parents during Curriculum Night and Parent Conferences.  Ambassadors mentor new students and help them to adapt to our school.  In the spring, the Ambassadors take the 4th grade elementary school students through a tour of our building during their move up day.  Then, in September, the Ambassadors assist the 5th graders in the halls.  Ambassadors are also trained in peer mediation and may be called upon to help students resolve their differences. 
Chess Club (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Mr. Prothero
The Chess Club gives students an opportunity to play friendly games of chess against their peers in a low-stress environment. Students of all levels are welcome to join. Space is limited. The club will run in the winter during January, February, and March.

Dance Club (girls in grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Ms. Seymour

This club is for girls who would like to share their interest in dance. Dancers may choreograph their own dance as well as learn a pre-choreographed dance. Dancers do not need to have any experience to participate.

Helping Hands (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Ms. Seymour

Helping Hands is a community service club that serves the T/E Middle School community as well as neighboring areas. Example activities are writing cards to soldiers, planting flowers, cleaning the courtyard or visiting students at the Timothy School. Students may participate when their schedules permit. Activities are held throughout the year. 2:40 to 3:10 in room 208.

Jr. Model U.N. (grades 6 through 8) Sponsors- Ms. Elshakhs and Mr. Bryant

This club gives students an opportunity to learn about international relations and global issues, while teaching them skills in researching, writing, public speaking, and diplomacy. Members will have the opportunity to meet students from other schools in the Greater Philadelphia area during 3 different conference field trips in Philadelphia.  The club is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.

Maintenance Monday (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Mrs. Galella

Maintenance Monday is oriented toward helping students with the organization of their materials and assignments.  Students meet Mrs. Galella in the Library on Monday afternoons from 2:35-3:10 to receive help organizing binders/lockers/backpacks and using their assignment books to plan out upcoming work or keep track of missing assignments. Students may attend on an as-needed basis.

Mathcounts (grades 6 through 8) Sponsors- Mrs. Stehouwer and Mrs. Patek

The 7th and 8th grade Mathcounts Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch/activity. Students work on problem solving strategies and skills. Suring the month of November, the school competition is held to determine the 10 students who will compete in the county competition in February. The winning team from the county advances to the state competition held in April.

Mathcounts for sixth grade is a math competition team in which students will compete in groups of four at a one-time county competition. The competition will be on a Saturday in March. Practices will take place November through March for any interested students. Practice will be before or after school and will be determined by student availability.

Musical Theater (grades 7 and 8) Sponsor- Mrs. Bortz

The musical theater group includes 7th and 8th grade students that participate in all aspects of this year’s musical production. Students may choose to audition for the cast, or join the production stage crew, which will handle scene changes of set pieces and props. Students may also opt to assist in other areas of the production process, including set and prop building/creation, painting, and costuming.

TE Middle School offers a variety of music opportunities for students, including 5 Band, 6 Band, 7/8 Band, 5/6 String Orchestra, 7/8 Orchestra, 5 Chorus, 6 Chorus, 7/8 Chorus, 7/8 Cantabile, Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble. Students are invited to participate in multiple ensembles, if they desire.

Ensemble rehearsals for 7th and 8th grade students take place before school, from 7:15 AM to 7:45 AM, while ensemble rehearsals for 5th and 6th grade students take place after school, from 2:35 PM to 3:10 PM. Students in Band, Orchestra, and Chorus have one small group sectional rehearsal each week in addition to the full-ensemble rehearsal. Band and Orchestra sectionals take place during the school day on a rotating schedule, and Chorus sectionals take place during students’ scheduled activity period.

Reading Olympics (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Mrs. Jacobs

Reading Olympics Club provides an opportunity for students in grades 5 through 8, who enjoy reading, to meet every other week. Students will read books in teams and represent T/E Middle in a county-wide competition where they will answer questions about the books they have read.

Running Club (grades 6 through 8) Sponsors- Mrs. Houghton and Mrs. Riggs

Running Club meets 3 days per week- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The runners will be divided into pace groups.  Runs will take place in local neighborhoods, on T/E fields and/or the Conestoga track.   We will also focus on stretching and general conditioning.  Some club objectives are learn about the sport of running; improve ability; share in the camaraderie of the sport; complete a T/E 5K; complete a local 5K race (optional). 2:40 to 3:45 in room 214.

Science Olympiad (grades 5 through 8) Sponsors- Ms. Crum and Mr. Roberts

Science Olympiad is a year-long extracurricular club dedicated to increasing students' interest in science, improving scientific reasoning, and developing thought process through lab, test, and building activities.  It requires teamwork, dedication, and commitment to weekly meetings as well as working on events outside of school.  The club is for 5th through 8th graders; however, due to Division B State guidelines, only 6th through 8th graders are able to compete in competitions.

Sewing Club (grades 7 and 8) Sponsor- Mrs. Bortz

The sewing club, comprised of 7th and 8th grade students, meets twice a week from October through May. Participants learn a variety of sewing techniques, including working from a pattern and more extensive use of the sewing machine and its capabilities. Projects will include individual items that participants may keep, and a cooperative effort to create appropriate costumes for the 7th and 8th grade musical production cast.

Stage Crew (grades 6 through 8) Sponsor- Mr. Ducassoux

TEMS Stage crew is an opportunity for students in grades 6-8 to assist in the assemblies, presentations, and concerts in the auditorium at TEMS.  Students will be given training on the sound and lighting equipment during activity periods throughout the year to assist them in these responsibilities.  If interested in stage crew see Mr. Ducassoux in room 172 to sign up.

Student Council (grades 6 through 8) Advisor- Mrs. Tyrell

Student Council is elected by the students of TEMS during Student council elections each May. The group includes 6 sixth graders, 6 seventh graders and 7 eight graders. We formally meet each Monday during 5th period for the 7th and 8th graders and Wednesdays from 7:30-8:00 am for the 6th graders. All students are together in one homeroom and spend most mornings working on Student Council activities throughout the year.

Join a group of people who play popular games involving problem solving and heroic adventures, try one of our many games from our club supply, or bring your own game to share.

Tutoring Club (grades 5 through 8) Sponsors- Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Houghton

Tutoring Club is open to any student who has a need for extra help. Students from Conestoga High School provide peer tutoring along with a TEMS teacher. Students need to arrive on time and should bring specific work assignments or review materials to each session. Students should also be aware that the tutors are available to help them, but not to do the work for them.

TV Studio (grades 5 through 8) Sponsors- Mr. Nunnelee and Mr. Ducassoux

The TEMS Bulldog TV Studio is an opportunity for 5-8 grade students to participate in a daily TV broadcast to the students and faculty during their homerooms.  This group meets every morning at 7:15 with a rotating schedule of students to work that day’s broadcast.  Through this experience students will get to learn the on camera and off camera responsibilities during a TV broadcast on industry standard equipment.  This experience will prepare students for continued work at Conestoga with their TETV program.  This group will run for the length of the school year.

Writing Club (grades 5 through 8) Sponsors- Dr. McDermott and Mr. Mattison

The writing club is open to students of all grade levels who love to write stories and poems, conduct interviews, create puzzles, draw comics, and more! The submissions from this club are used to create our students newspaper, The Bulldog Press.

Yearbook (grades 5 through 8) Sponsor- Mrs. Matilla

Yearbook is open to any student interested in photography or design. Yearbook meets on various days after school about once a month, depending on the deadlines we have to meet.
